Description
In October 2022, the last Boeing 747 rolled off the production line at the gigantic factory in Everett, USA. After 52 years, production of the ‘Jumbo Jet’ came to an end.
After years of research, Andreas Spaeth, one of the best-known aviation journalists in Europe, has compiled information, documents and images that have never been shown together before. Geoffrey Thomas, founder of AirlineRatings.net, provided color photographs from Boeing‘s factory archives and printed here for the first time. And 747 pilot and gifted photographer Christiaan van Heijst contributed a breathtaking photo series in which he captured his flying experiences as a “cowboy of the skies”.
With its legendary upper deck, the 747 stands for the glamour of flying. At the same time, with more than 500 seats, it made air travel so much more affordable. With smooth flight characteristics, the sheer size and distinctive hump have inscribed themselves in the collective memory. Any passenger with some interest in airplanes remembers their first flight in the 747 ‘Jumbo Jet’.
